🌞 What to do about SUMMER?🌞

Summer 2018 will be crackling with energy! Here’s an outline of what we have planned week by week:

JUNE

Our current Academy Class and Practice Schedule continues throughout the entire month of June with the exception of our Homeschool Academy class, which will end the last week of May.  Academy members, join your Academy Class for the Mid-South Academy Championships as each Academy Class competes to earn the most points for an end-of-season ice cream party. Competition day is Sunday, June 3rd, registration closes at 2pm.

Beginners are introduced to all styles of Olympic swords where they learn the basics of how to play the game.

June 11th-15th: Olympic Fencing Half Day (Beginner) Half-day, $195, Ages 8-12. 9am-noon. New to fencing? This is a great start. If you need a full day camp this week, check out our camp for rising 3rd-6th graders at Durham Academy.

June 18th-22nd: High Performance (Competitive/Elite) $425. Prepare for the Summer National Championships, set your goals for the 2018-2019 season, and have fun with your fencing besties! We are also excited to fully unveil our competitive program for the 2018-2019 season this week. Don’t miss out! We welcome all folks planning to “go competitive” next year at this camp or our Intermediate High Performance camp in August. We want to ensure you feel prepared as we enter into the 2018-2019 competitive season.

June 25-29th. Olympic Fencing (Beginner/Intermediate) $290. This camp is great for beginners, newer fencers, or our current and past Academy fencers. The camp is mixed ages, 8 – 16 years old, and runs from 9-3:30pm. We do have a late pick-up option for working parents until 5pm.

June 16th – June 21st – FINAL STAMP WEEK for Academy classes! Potluck and Pin Ceremony will be Saturday, June 23rd, 6:00pm. During the last week of class in June we will have individual, in-house class tournaments.

July

Join our international competitors in intensified training sessions during our High Performance Camps in June and August.

For members, the club will be CLOSED July 1st-10th and reopen Wednesday, July 11th.  We will begin our Fall Practice Schedule and Academy classes August 27th.  Open Bouting, All Weapons:  6:30pm-9pm, Monday – Thursday. Saturdays 11-1pm. ALL WEAPON group practices: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 6:00-8:00pm, Saturdays 10-noon.

July 16th-20th, fencing Master Jen leads a unique program just for girls. Fence Like A Girl! is a mixed-age camp for beginner to more experienced female fencers. The camp is the same format as our Olympic Fencing Camps, but with the dynamic of having a girls only group. Cost is $290.00.

July 23rd-27th. Join us at Durham Academy for a half-day beginner Olympic Fencing Camp for rising 3rd-6th grades. It’s an afternoon camp and the enrollment is $210.

Are you an aspiring fencing coach or looking to beef up your sabre instruction in a safe and supportive environment? Join Coach Jen in Las Vegas for the annual United States Fencing Coaching Associations’ coaching training and certification camp. Coach Jen will be leading the saber instruction.

*NEW FOR 2018* We are calling this camp Modern Warrior. It is a full-day camp for middle schoolers and teens which will meet July 30-Aug 3rd, from 9-4pm. It will include the history of one-on-one combat, Longsword, explore modern sports (like fencing), and incorporate modern martial arts training, environmental awareness exercises, and address modern safety issues teens are forced to prepare themselves for today. Instructors are Coach Jeff Kallio and Systema Expert Glenn Murphy. The cost of this specialty camp is $330 for the week. 

August

For the month of August we will restart 8-week introductory classes for both aspiring youth and adult fencers. Look here for registration and details.

Intermediate Saber and Youth High Performance Camp. If you are loving fencing and considering taking your participation to the next level, this camp is for you. Formerly, our Tournament Skills preparation camp, we learn how to practice, learn more intricate rules of fencing, how to be a good teammate, and of course, lots of good ole dodge-ball. Cost is $330 for this week intensive camp that meets August 6th-10th, 9-4pm.

The Mid-South Fencers’ Club annual “BIG BLUE” tournament for all three Olympic weapons and Y-12 Saber will be August 11th and 12thRegister Now!

Our final camp at Mid-South for the summer will be a beginner through intermediate Olympic Fencing Camp, August 13th-17th. Just like our camp in June, it will meet from 9-3:30pm and be the good all-around fencing camp you expect from us year after year.

The last week of August, the Travel Team will head to Oregon Fencing Alliance for our annual pilgrimage to National Coach Ed Korfanty at the the national training center. If you have been competing nationally for a few years, please consider joining us. Contact Coach Jen for details.

From June-August, we have an undergraduate special where you can join group practices all summer long for a one-time $175 fee. We love it when you visit!
